The vice chief of the surgical services division at the Duke Cancer Institute, Dr. David Harpole specializes in thoracic surgery, with board certifications in general and thoracic surgery. Dr. Harpole started his studies at the Washington & Lee University, graduating from the University of Virginia medical school in 1984. He studied as a resident and fellow at the Duke University Medical Center. Over the years, Dr. Harpole practiced in several hospitals and medical centers, including the Lung Cancer Prognostic Research and even occupied a position as a professor at the Duke University Medical Center. His main area of expertise has been mesothelioma developing and trialing several improvements in the treatment and surgery procedures.
