There are several clinical trials in which patients suffering from peritoneal mesothelioma can partake to receive alternative treatment options. Immunotherapy, which involves the use of antigens in order to enhance the immune response of the body to a better prognosis, and gene therapy, focusing on repairing the defective genes which allowed the occurrence of peritoneal mesothelioma are both available in clinical trials. However, the previous approaches’ effectiveness has not been fully demonstrated yet since they entail experimental treatment methods.

Additionally, treatment with a recently developed non-chemotherapy drug named Veglin is being researched. Veglin is an anti-angiogenesis agent which prevents the blood supply to reach cancer affected region, thus inhibiting its growth. This treatment approach is also available to patients diagnosed with peritoneal mesothelioma in the clinical trial.
