Ipratropium inhalation is used to prevent bronchospasm, or the narrowing of the airways in the lungs, as well as wheezing, shortness of breath, coughing, and chest tightness in patients with ongoing lung conditions.

This medication is inhaled orally using a nebulizer generally 3 or 4 times a day (doses should be 6-8 hours apart).
