If you have been regularly using a rescue inhaler (eg, albuterol), talk with your doctor about how to use it with salmeterol. Rescue inhalers are normally used only to treat breathing problems that may occur between doses.

Salmeterol is inhaled by mouth twice a day 12 hours apart. The inhaler must be used in a level position and you should avoid exhaling into the device.
