Oxygen therapy, or supplemental oxygen, is a type of therapy that helps the patients increase the amount of oxygen they breathe. This therapy is recommended for patients who have low levels of oxygen in their blood, patients who are intoxicated with carbon monoxide, or patients who suffer from a certain type of headaches. Additionally, patients who suffer from certain conditions such as cystic fibrosis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, or other affections that cause shortness of breath are also recommended to undergo oxygen therapy. Oxygen therapy is administered through certain devices such as a special facemask, a nasal cannula, or spending time inside the hyperbaric chamber.
