Photodynamic therapy (PDT) uses a combination of light and drugs known as photosensitizing agents to kill cancer cells and stop cancer from spreading. In patients with pleural mesothelioma, the main photosensitizer used in treatment is porfimer sodium, usually called Photofrin.
