The simple cystectomy is a surgical procedure that consists of the removal of the bladder, while the partial cystectomy or the segmental cystectomy consists of the removal of only a portion of the bladder. These surgeries are used to treat bladder cancers, certain birth defects involving the bladder, severe injuries, or neurological disorders. The bladder can be removed through open surgery, laparoscopic surgery, or robotic surgery.
