Dr. Steven Albelda is an expert in pulmonology. He lives and works in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He has an extensive experience of more than 20 years of practice. Dr. Albelda graduated from the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. He completed a residency in internal medicine at the University of Pennsylvania Health System and a fellowship in pulmonary diseases at the University of Pennsylvania Health System. He is a board-certified specialist in pulmonary diseases and internal medicine and is licensed to practice in Pennsylvania. Dr. Albelda is a prominent figure in the research and teaching fields. He directs the lung research activity at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and the Penn Lung Center. Moreover, he helps coordinate the Pulmonary, Allergy and Critical Care Division at the same university where he also practices teaching. He conducted numerous studies that aimed to discover and improve lung cancer treatments. His efforts have been directed to research topics like mesothelioma and immuno-gene therapy, pleural mesothelioma diagnosis, and staging. He has conducted numerous studies on human tumor samples and multiple clinical trials. He also collaborated with the Monell Chemical Senses Center where he studied lung cancer early detection in patients at higher risk. In another collaboration with the Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation, Dr. Albelda studied mesothelioma tumors regression in relationship with the cold virus. He wrote different studies that dealt with genetic therapy in cancers and some of his works were published in the Critical Care Medicine and the Clinical Cancer Research. Dr. Steven Albelda was awarded the Wagner distinction in 2010 for his outstanding contribution to mesothelioma research and his effort to develop new therapies in this field. He is an elected member of the American Society for Clinical Investigation and is affiliated with the Hospitals of the University of Pennsylvania-Penn Presbyterian.
