Born in Temple, Texas, Dr. William Smythe graduated from the Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine and was awarded the Helen Slayer Anderson Award for Academic Achievement. At the University of Pennsylvania Dr. Smythe completed his training in molecular biology research, general surgery and cardiothoracic surgery. Dr. William Smythe is the Professor and Roney Endowed Chair of Surgery at the Scott & White Health System and the Texas A&M HSC College of Medicine. His work and research into gene manipulation towards treating cancer is well appreciated throughout the medical community. Dr. Smythe is the recipient of the Best Doctors in America award every year since 2003.
